How is my coverage amount determined?

Initially we will ask you what coverage amount you would like. Usually this will be the amount on your current policy or an amount required by your mortgage company. We then verify the coverage by asking you for information about the number of full-sized rooms and other features in your house. We count the number and size of bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens, living rooms etc. and then apply this against our residential building cost tables to develop an approximate coverage amount. That amount is further modified by applying a location factor that measures varying building costs in different parts of the country. If the amount you request is equal to or higher than the verified amount, we will quote you at the requested amount. If the requested amount is lower than the verified amount, we will quote at the verified amount. Occasionally we will also order an inspection report if there is still some question as to the proper amount. These extra measures are taken to be sure you have adequate coverage in the unfortunate event that you encounter a loss.
