Gift ideas for car enthusiasts

If you have a car enthusiast on your holiday shopping list there are a number of gifts, and price ranges, to choose from.

Gifts for the auto enthusiast

To narrow your choices, consider the type of auto fan this person is. For example do they like classic cars, modern performance or maybe they enjoy following motorsports such as NASCAR or Formula 1 racing?

Racing schools
A natural place to start for someone who loves racing, there are schools available for those who would like to experience performance driving on a real track in a safe and controlled environment. Cost will vary depending on the experience selected. Here we highlight a couple to get you started.

Dale Jarrett's Racing Adventure is a stockcar driving school in which attendees learn to drive like a pro in an actual racecar. What could be a better gift than driving the Talladega SuperSpeedway? You can also participate in a high speed ride along at any one of their "racing schools" on tracks across the USA.

The Skip Barber Racing School provides racing enthusiasts with a taste of authentic competitive driving. Skip Barber's High Performance Driving School teaches students about vehicle dynamics, how to slide and recover on the race track, accident avoidance, along with lead-and-follow protocol. Some of the available packages include: Formula Car Racing, MazdaSpeed, High Performance Driving, and Mazda Driving Schools. Students receive one-on-one instruction during one or two day events hosted in Monterey, California or Lime Rock, Connecticut.

Check out edmunds.com for a comprehensive list of performance driving schools by state or province.

Keep your paint protected
Have someone who agonizes over any little scratch on their car? We've got the suggestion for you. StonGard® Paint Protection guards the painted and metal surfaces of cars, trucks and SUVs from bugs, stones and other road debris. StonGard is available for most makes and models of American and import cars. Product details are provided at www.stongard.com.

Please note: This vehicle protection product should be professionally installed to ensure protection of vulnerable areas and remain seam-free.

For those without a garage
Do you know someone who needs to keep their prize (or project) covered? Check out Covercraft Vehicle Protection, which offers a wide selection of moisture-resistant covers for cars, trucks, motorcycles and watercraft. In addition to exterior vehicle protection, Covercraft offers a variety of interior products including products to keep drivers cool in summer months and also offer protection from daily wear and tear.

Car books
Check out www.amazon.com for some great book ideas. There are numerous table top books with beautifully-photographed cars available. From GM, Ford and Mopar muscle to classic Ferrari, Mercedes and Porsche and on up to modern-day exotics, there is something available for all car enthusiasts.

Gift suggestions for all types of drivers

Car Care Products
Originally a furniture polish provider, Meguiar's has evolved into a leader in the automotive industry, offering car care protection for a vehicle's interior and exterior. For example, their detail kits include car shampoo and conditioner, auto detailing clay, car polishes and waxes, car interior protectants, wheel and tire care, glass care, car trim and molding care, chrome and aluminum care, cloth, carpet and leather cleaners, and odor elimination products.

A unique feature offered by Meguiar's is the option to obtain personalized detailing recommendations based on vehicle condition and your auto detailing goals. By answering a few questions in Meguiar's Rx Plus Interactive Experience, auto buffs can find out exactly which products are needed to restore or retain car shine, protect vehicle interior, and provide shining radiance to wheels and tires. Obtain your personalized car care prescription at http://www.meguiars.com/.

Stay safe front and back
Whether changing lanes on a busy highway, backing up in a crowded parking lot (or even in your neighborhood on a summer afternoon) you need to be aware of your surroundings. ScopeOut can help with that. Positioned on the review window of your vehicle, drivers simply look into their vehicle's rear-view mirror to get a better look at what's behind their vehicle. Blind spots are reduced, and drivers can feel more confident when changing lanes or backing out of parking spaces. ScopeOut mounts inside the back window and will not interfere with window tinting or vehicle defroster wires.

Tip of the iceberg
We highlighted just a few of the available gift options for your car lover. From the high-end of a performance driving experience to windshield wipers and everything in between, there are a number of additional gifts available, such as calendars, t-shirts, models and die-cast replicas. As with any gift, the trick is finding the type of fan they are and matching them up. And who knows, you may just find something for yourself along the way.
