ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to all students attending an accredited four-year college or university on a full-time basis in the fall of 2012. Students must have either a. be entering the first year of college and have graduated high school with at least a 3.0 GPA or b. have a college GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of contest submission. Students must also have fulfilled 40+ hours or more of community service since January 1, 2012. Participants will be entered only once. Participants must complete the online enrollment form in full, submit a 250-word essay on their charity work, and submit 1-10 photos of their charity work in order to qualify. Participants will be judged on their quality of essay and the volunteer work they have completed. Participants must submit all required materials by September 30, 2012 at 11:59 PM EST to be considered eligible for the contest. Winners will be notified on Friday, October 12, 2012.
WINNERS: One, GRAND PRIZE WINNER will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship for college that will be presented in the form of a check. A total of 20 second prize winners will each win a $550 scholarship to be presented in the form a check. Before receiving their prize, participants will need to sign a release and present proof that they are currently enrolled in college. All second prize winners will need to agree to having their pictures posted on the 21st.com site in order to be eligible for the contest. The GRAND PRIZE winner will need to agree to an interview for 21st.com and to have their picture shared on the site in order to be eligible for the prize. Winners will be notified on Friday, October 12, 2012.
PRIZES: Limit one (1) scholarship per entrant. All prizes are non-transferable. Taxes (if any) are the sole responsibility of the winner. 21st Century Insurance, Inc. and its agencies (including TPG) are not responsible for late, incomplete, lost, garbled/corrupted, misdirected or damaged electronic delivery sign-ups/entries. Sponsor's computer shall be determinative of time of electronic delivery sign-up and Sweepstakes entry.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY A PERSON TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW AS WELL AS DISQUALIFYING SUCH PERSON FROM THE CONTEST (IF APPLICABLE).
Sponsor, TPG, their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, related companies and agencies will not be liable for: (a) any computer, telephone, cable, network, satellite, electronic or Internet hardware or software malfunctions, failures, connections, or difficulties of any kind; (b) failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions; (c) inaccurate capture of electronic delivery sign-ups/entries or other information, or the failure to capture, or loss of, any such information; or (d) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor or its agencies that may cause the Sweepstakes to be disrupted, corrupted or cancelled. All entries and participant information becomes the property of Sponsor. If, for any reason, an entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, such participant's sole remedy is another entry in the applicable random drawing provided that it is possible to provide same to Participant (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion).
If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned by reason, for example, of infection by computer virus, worms, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which Sponsor, in its sole opinion, deems could corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Sweepstakes as intended, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate, modify or suspend this Contest, in whole or in part. In such event, notice of such action will be posted at www.21st.com/scholarship and Sponsor will conduct the Contest and select winners for all affected random drawing(s) from among all eligible entries received for such affected drawing(s) prior to and/or after the action taken by Sponsor (as appropriate) or otherwise in a manner determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion to be fair, appropriate and consistent with these Official Rules.
By entering you agree to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges and Sponsor that will be final and binding in all respects. Potential winners will be notified via phone and by written communication (either email or a physical letter). Potential winners must sign and return an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and (where legal) a publicity release within 10 days of prize notification. Failure of winner to complete, sign and return Affidavit within prescribed time or if prize notification is returned as undeliverable or winner cannot be contacted for any reason, prize will be forfeited without compensation of any kind and an alternate winner selected from among all remaining eligible entries received for applicable drawing. Employees and their immediate family members (parent, child, sibling, spouse) of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies and TPG and their affiliates are not eligible. Sponsor's failure to enforce any provision of these Official Rules shall NOT constitute the waiver of that provision.
RELEASES: By accepting prize, except where prohibited by law, winner agrees to the use of his/her name, address (city, state), likeness, voice, photograph and/or other indicia of persona for advertising/publicity/trade purposes by Sponsor and its designees without further compensation or notice. Participants indemnify, release and agree to hold harmless Sponsor, and TPG, their respective parent companies, affiliates and subsidiaries, and the directors, officers, agents, representatives, shareholders, and employees of any of the above organizations from any and all liability arising from participating in the Contest, any Contest-related activity and/or acceptance, receipt, possession or use/misuse of the prize. Sponsor and its agencies have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, expressed or implied, in fact or in law, relating to the prize including but not limited to its quality, merchantability or fitness for the intended purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Participants agree that any dispute regarding the Contest will be brought individually (not as part of a class action) in Delaware state court in New Castle County or the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts; and, in any such dispute, waive any right to receive any recovery other than actual out-of-pocket costs incurred in connection with entering Contest (if any). The court shall apply the internal, substantive law of the State of Delaware in resolving any such dispute.
